The Modesto Judo club was founded in 2007 by Don Hunnell and is dedicated to serving the youth and adults of this community by providing a safe and family friendly environment that contributes to the physical and overall development of each individual. Classes are open to both adults and children starting at five years of age. Whether you're looking to get into shape, learn a new martial art, train for competition or just find a place where you can make friends and have fun, our school is the place for you!
"And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." Colossians 3:17
What We Teach
🥋 Judo Program (Gi) Our Judo classes focus on traditional techniques while building real-world skills. Students learn safe and effective throws, balance, coordination, and control, along with pins and basic submissions. Beyond techniques, we emphasize discipline, respect, confidence, and focus in a structured and supportive environment. Judo helps kids develop both physically and mentally while learning how to control an opponent safely.
🤼 Submission Grappling (No-Gi) Our No-Gi Grappling program combines wrestling, judo, and jiu-jitsu into a fast-paced, practical system. Students learn takedowns, ground control, escapes, and submissions in a fun and dynamic setting. This class improves athleticism, reaction time, and problem-solving, while teaching kids how to stay calm and confident under pressure. No uniform required—just come ready to move and learn!
